My New Green Thumb

On Saturday night, April 23rd - I embarked upon a new chapter in my life....gardening. This is something that I never thought that I would try, mainly due to my phobia of wasps, but I am working through that issue. Byron (my father-in-law) and I have been discussing this idea for a few years now, but we decided to go for it this year!! So -- he came over, I grabbed my stuff and we went for it. Byron had tilled up the land for me back when I was in the hospital with Tyler and so it was nice and ready for us!

We planted 4 rows of corn, 2 rows of green beans, 2 cabbage plants, 3 tomato plants (red and yellow), 1 pepper plant, 3 squash plants, 3 zucchini plants, 2 rows of potatoes, 3 cantaloupe plants and 3 cucumber plants. (And Zachary planted me some Sunflowers at the end of every row.)

Yeah -- I know, right? I wear my Ann Taylor/New York dress clothes and high heels during the day and my overalls and garden shoes at night! :) So there is A LOT more info to come on the garden...including some visits from some crazy animals, but to keep this going in chronological order these are only pictures from that night.

Getting Ready...

For the record, I HATE this picture because I look very "post-partum" in it, but I had to post it so that everyone would believe that I actually planted some of this garden!!
Zachary was a big helper!

Nathan got in on it too...

And little E was there to oversee everything! :)

And my blackberry bushes are blooming this year too!!

I found these adorable metal flowers and labeled my rows so that I would know what to look for!

This picture was just a week or so after we planted the garden, but everything was already starting to sprout up! I was so proud!!
