Whew...long day! We are home now and the boys are sleeping, so I thought I would update you on everything.
The boys look GREAT!!! Praise the Lord. Zachary does have an area of his heart that the doctors want to watch closely, as does Eli. But their doctor said, and I quote, "Mrs. Barnes, if there is one thing I want you to walk away from today remembering it is that your boys are healthy right now. Let them run! Let them play! Let them be boys! We will deal with other issues as they arise. But as of right now, they do not have this disease!"
I hugged him. :) Yep -- me and all my southern girl glory, hugged this man hard! He was able to give us so much information about Nathan's disease, the disease process, what the future looks like for Nathan and for our boys. He was able to offer something that has been rarely discussed with us related to this issue: hope. Hope that my children CAN lead normal lives. Hope that I can take my three boys to the pool this summer and not be looking at defibrillator scars of their own! Hope that one day I will see them out on their home football fields with Nathan helping to coach on the sidelines. Hope that I can go to games, track meets, swim races, soccer games and etc without the fear that my child will collapse if he pushes himself too hard. The hope and peace that I can sleep all the way through the night without the fear that one of my four boys won't wake up in the morning. And the hope that Nathan should in fact grow old with me and watch the boys grow up and have kiddos of their own! In his words, "I want your husband around to help teach Tyler how to shave when it is actually time for him to learn!"
I felt as though God reached down through this man and hugged me right back.
So thanks to you all for your prayers - I know He hears them because Nathan Barnes and I both can feel them.
Genetic testing happens in December with more appointments for Nathan in January and then we can go from there. So for now -- this is Team Barnes, signing off as four country boys and once city girl....with one HEALTHY report!
