Milah's Flowers

It's a unique thing, in my opinion, that a certain smell, or taste or visual image can take you back to a memory in your childhood. For instance, Nathan is reminded of his grandparents in North Carolina when he plays certain board games and to Vacation Bible Schools. Every time we play checkers, he thinks of Papaw Barnes. When Zachary sings Bible songs or when we make homemade ice cream, he thinks of Mamaw Barnes. The smell of Elmer's paste brings me back to my first day of kindergarten. The smell of pine trees or coffee brewing makes me think of Michigan and my grandparents. A plane flying above reminds me of Granpa...the list goes on and on...

Well, the other day the boys and I went to visit my grandmother Milah. And as we pulled into her driveway, I was reminded of the most vivid memory that I have that makes me think of her...her beautiful flowers. Every time I see a garden, or see a flower in bloom - I think of Milah, and it takes me back to some of my earliest childhood memories. She has always had the most amazing flowers at her house and she makes it look so easy to have a green thumb. So, I took some pictures to share...and to scrapbook a page in her honor... Milah has always been one of my best friends, and someone that has always been there through everything...from knee scratches in elementary school, to bad hair days in middle school, to fashion trends in high school, my marriage...births of her great-grand children, etc. She has truly been in a blessing in my life.

One of my favorite flowers...

Here are some other shots from the visit...
Taking the time to smell the roses...well, the Daisies!

Eli actually wasn't crying in this pic...he was just stretching!

Zachary eating his treats Gran-Milah made for him....frozen jello jigglers!
And alas, little Eli...
He really did enjoy the visit - he just has a unique way of showing it!
